Recommended board types for outdoor wooden doors

Time:2025-06-23

Based on the specific usage scenarios of outdoor wooden doors, and considering the requirements for weather resistance, moisture resistance, corrosion resistance, and structural stability, the following types of boards and supporting solutions are recommended:

1.Hardwood (high-end weather resistant)

  • Teak wood

Containing natural oils, it has excellent waterproof and insect proof properties, with a temperature difference deformation rate of less than 0.3%.

After surface treatment, it can maintain its luster for a long time with low maintenance costs (recommended from Myanmar).

  • Red pear (African rosewood)

Excellent anti-corrosion and anti moth capabilities, stable in humid environments, with a density of ≥ 800kg/m ³.

The deep red texture comes with decorative properties and is suitable for villa entrances.

2.Economical and practical

Elm: Drying moisture content ≤ 12%+fully enclosed paint, service life of 15 years+.

Shuqu Willow: Frame splicing structure+two-component weather resistant adhesive, with a service life of 10 years.

Boluoge: pressure impregnation anti-corrosion (CCA treatment), with a service life of 20 years.

Pine wood requires special treatment: anti-corrosion soaking+carbonization process, otherwise the cracking rate will be greater than 60% within 3 years.

3.Moisture proof and deformation resistant core technology

  • Structural Design

Adopting bridge tunnel mechanics core to avoid thermal deformation and improve sound insulation by 40%.

Reserve a 3mm expansion joint between the door frame and the door panel (to prevent expansion during rainy season).

  • Surface protection

Outdoor water-based paint (6-side and 3-side process), with a UV resistance rating of ≥ 8.

Metal wrapped corners+bottom aluminum alloy pad (rainproof).

4.Guide to Avoiding Pits

Use oak with caution: It is prone to deformation when used in large areas, and the width of the veneer should be limited to less than 30cm.

Refusal of honeycomb paper filling: poor load bearing, scrap rate after rainstorm reached 80%.

Be wary of rubber wood impersonating red oak: check the cross-sectional annual ring density.

Acceptance criteria:

  • Water splashing test: There is no water infiltration in the door gap.

  • The reading of the moisture content detector is ≤ 12%.

  • The hinge load-bearing test is ≥ 100kg.
