The following are recommendations for selecting wooden board materials for construction, combined with comprehensive analysis of climate, usage, and performance requirements:
1.Select based on climate adaptability
Dry northern regions
Pine wood: low moisture content (≤ 15%), strong stability, excellent bending and compression resistance, suitable for load-bearing structures. Red pine is light and soft, easy to process, while larch is heavy and pressure resistant.
Yumu: structurally stable, homophonic with "surplus grain" meaning auspiciousness, commonly used in traditional architecture for building beams.
Southern humid environment
Cedar: With outstanding moisture resistance and natural oils to prevent insect damage, the wood is light and tough, suitable for frames and walls.
Cinnamomum camphora: Corrosion resistant and high elastic modulus, suitable for fine wooden components.
2.Special needs material selection
Corrosion resistance and durability:
Indonesian pineapple: high-density, corrosion-resistant, suitable for outdoor high-end buildings (such as landscape pavilions), but the cost is relatively high.
Anti corrosion treatment of pine/fir wood: treated with ACQ or CCA anti-corrosion agent, in accordance with GB/T 22102-2008 standard, with a penetration depth of ≥ 5mm.
Load bearing structure:
Oak: High hardness and strong bending strength, but attention should be paid to oxidation discoloration.
Jujube wood: With a dense texture, it is used as a pillar in traditional architecture, symbolizing longevity.
3.Performance parameter comparison
Pine wood: flexural strength ≥ 30MPa, moderate moisture resistance, anti-corrosion treatment required, suitable for northern building beams and beams.
Cedar: Moderate flexural strength, excellent moisture resistance, natural anti-corrosion and insect proof properties, suitable for southern wall and formwork support.
Boluo Ge: High bending strength, excellent moisture resistance, natural anti-corrosion, suitable for outdoor heavy-duty structures.
Oak: flexural strength ≥ 50MPa 6, moderate moisture resistance, moderate corrosion resistance, suitable for flooring and load-bearing beams in various scenarios.
4.Precautions for use
Moisture content control: The moisture content of building timber should be ≤ 18%, and the environment should be balanced for more than 2 weeks before installation to avoid deformation.
Defect inspection: Remove dead joints and cracks with a depth greater than 1/4 of the thickness of the wood, and ensure that the diameter of the active joint is ≤ 1/3 of the width of the board.
Anti corrosion acceptance:
Cut the cross-section on site and observe the penetration depth of the preservative (≥ 5mm);
The laboratory XRF detection of elements (such as Cr, Cu, As) complies with GB/T 23229.
Traditional material selection wisdom: Chunmu (insect proof roof) and Jinsi Nanmu (high-end decoration) are still selected due to their cultural value, but require budget support.
